Lyrics I saw you first before that thick fog overwhelmed you You came in quickly covering your eyes So you like it So you like it I can't touch you now I can't see you now Through the haze Chorus: But your laughter It lingers now You are melting away And your laughter It lingers now You were swept away I seemed to wait forever for you to return I think you found someone else to talk to Maybe someone like me Someone like me I call out to you I reach out to you Through the haze Chorus Was is something about the clearness here Was is easy …to accept as it is Should it be thicker With more thought about it Lost before . . . Should have recognized the familiar scent of the fog Drifting in ( 7 times) Here it comes now . . . |

Devotion Probably the key to interpreting this particular song is to be familiar with its perspective. By that, I mean you need to know at whose point of view the song is sung. I believe you can look at it through two perspectives. One being that God is doing the singing, but I think it is best understood as you realize that it is the backslide believer singing. The entire song really deals with the issue of sin and how it separates us from God. The words "fog" and "haze" are used throughout the song to describe the barrier that exists between the believer and God because of his or her sin. The chorus focuses on the point of how things get steady or even rapidly worse as the believer continues to dwell in sin. The "laughter," or joy of the Lord "lingers," but it is slowly "melting away" because of sin. The second verse speaks of how God will "wait forever" which illustrates God's patience with His children. But yet we are not to abuse such a wonderful gift. At this point the song gets confusing. It seems to flip flop between the two perspectives. But all I know is that sin is bad so stay away from it! Take a look at the verses: Isaiah 59:1-2 Romans 6:11-14 |
