Lyrics I must have been confused or vain To let this evil in my brain Lord did I enjoy the change That you made inside my heart Chorus: Oh here they come But I'm not afraid There's no temptation I can't evade Stand up straight Look through the haze I begin to walk through the maze Here they come They're all up on me But I'm dead to sin like Some kind of zombie I hear you speak and I obey Some kind of zombie I walked away from the grave Some kind of zombie I will never be afraid Some kind of zombie I gave my life away I'm obliged and obey I'm enslaved to what you say Chorus |

Devotion Big choruses landing on my face! This chorus is enormous, but boy, oh boy, is it great. The first verse is wonderful. Its like a survey of the heart. The artist says he "must have been confused or vain to let this evil in my brain." Sometimes we get self-reliant, and we think we can handle temptations alone. Just when we think that, they overwhelm us and we sin. Then the artist's asks whether or not he really enjoyed "the change" that God made in him. If he did, why he is not allowing God to work. Then the big honking chorus appears! The chorus tells us how we should face temptations. "Oh here they come" lets us know that the temptations are approaching and they will come. But don't fear, "there's no temptation I can't evade" with God's help. We need to stand firm and "look through the haze" or look past the attempts of temptations to cloud our judgment. Before you know it temptations are "all up on" us. But we're "dead to sin like some kind of zombie." A zombie is the living dead. We are zombies because we are alive physical & spiritual but dead to sin. Sin has no place in our lives if we follow Christ. The mini-verse after the first appearance of the chorus speaks volumes. We are no longer slaves to sin, but slaves to righteousness. Take a gander at this passage: Romans 6:11-14 |
